Kelly Michaud Founder & Partner
Kelly's journey into accounting began unexpectedly in high school when math wasn't her strength, leading her to business classes instead. At 15, after losing her father, she landed a job through a state-funded program at her town's Tax Assessor's office—where she discovered a different side of numbers that would shape her future. After moving to North Carolina in 2005, she spent six years at the local Board of Education, working in federal grants and community affairs. What started as temporary help for a contractor she met through church became Solid Rock Accounting Services in 2011, allowing her to stay home with her youngest child while building something meaningful.
With several years of accounting coursework, Certified Bookkeeper credentials, and Intuit ProAdvisor certification, Kelly brings over 35 years of budgeting, financial reporting, and tax expertise to her clients. What she loves most is simple: the client stories and relationships. One of her most memorable moments came when a distraught couple wandered into the office without an appointment, carrying piles of papers and tears streaming down their faces. Their previous accountant had stopped working with them without notice, and they had no idea they owed 1099s to their workers, due in just four days. Kelly and her team sent them home with W-9 forms, created spreadsheets from the chaos, and met the deadline. That small home-based business is still a client today, now generating $250K annually with five employees on payroll.
Kelly believes that a business's potential isn't determined by its size, but by the commitment and passion you bring to it. She advises every small business owner to remember one thing: the finances are yours—treat them responsibly. Outside the office, Kelly is active in her church, loves scrapbooking and Bible journaling, and finds peace walking by the water, collecting shells, and taking in God's creation. She's a lifelong big-dog lover who recently welcomed Ruby Rose, a mini golden-doodle who spends three days a week in the office. Kelly and her late husband, Gary, were married for 44 years before the Lord called him home unexpectedly. Together they raised a grafted family of three birth children and two adopted teens—one from Massachusetts and one from Ukraine. Today, her children are spread out from Louisiana to Alaska, with two in Texas, along with 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
