Built on Solid Rock

What began as a temporary solution became a calling.

In 2011, Kelly Michaud left her position at a county Board of Education due to integrity concerns, uncertain about her next step. Someone at church mentioned a single dad and contractor who desperately needed help with his business accounting. What started as a way to meet her family's income needs quickly revealed something bigger: small business owners were struggling, often believing they had to do everything themselves, and that outsourcing meant failure.

By April 2015, Solid Rock Accounting Services was officially formed. The name itself reflects the foundation Kelly wanted to build: inspired by Matthew 7:24-27, where Christ speaks of building your house upon the rock. When a business's financials are solid like that rock, it can withstand any storm. Without that foundation, it can crumble.

The work revealed a common struggle: business owners didn't understand their numbers, couldn't read their reports, or simply didn't take time to look at them. Many operated with a dangerous assumption: there's money in the bank, so I'm good. There had to be a better way.

As the company grew from Kelly's home to a shared four-desk space, then to a suite in a law firm, so did the vision. In 2020, Becky Lowery joined the team as a bookkeeper, and everything clicked. She brought not only skill and dedication but a genuine connection to the mission and the clients.

Two years later, Becky and her husband, Brian, answered a call to pastor in Northern Virginia. She reluctantly left to join a CPA firm there, and the absence was felt deeply at Solid Rock.

Then came one of the most difficult seasons. In 2022, Kelly's husband of 44 years, Gary, passed unexpectedly. Without hesitation, Becky returned to North Carolina to help Kelly navigate that devastating loss and keep Solid Rock moving forward.

A year passed. Becky was still in Virginia, still searching for her place. That's when Kelly called with a question that would change everything: would Becky consider returning as a Partner?

The Foundation Of Our Story

Today, Kelly and Becky lead Solid Rock together as equal partners with a shared mission: to empower small business owners by simplifying their books through trusted, relationship-based bookkeeping, payroll, and consulting—delivered in person or virtually. They serve clients throughout all 50 states, working with solopreneurs and small businesses (under 30 employees), from startups with big dreams to established companies seeking clarity about their numbers.

What makes Solid Rock different? The team reviews and captures transactions daily or weekly—not just monthly totals when statements arrive. They require (or strongly encourage) clients to go through training when financial reports are first prepared, ensuring business owners actually understand their balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow. No decision is too small to evaluate, whether it's a new laptop or a major equipment purchase.

But more than anything, it's the relationships. Solid Rock doesn't spend money on print ads or radio spots. Their story speaks for itself—built on honesty, care, and genuine investment in their clients' success. Success isn't measured only in financials. It's measured in how clients approach their decisions and own them. It's seen when business owners stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling confident.

Looking ahead, Kelly and Becky envision tremendous growth—not for growth's sake, but because the need is real. They're building a team dedicated to the values that guide everything they do: trust, clarity, support, and integrity. And as Solid Rock grows, so does their capacity to serve through missions and other opportunities.

At its core, Solid Rock exists to do more than push reports at people. Kelly and Becky are here to contribute to business success, to educate, and to build relationships that matter—because small business owners deserve more than just a bookkeeper. They deserve partners who believe in what they're building.
